Few Westerners are aware of their country. So I thought I&#8217;d share a few simple facts about Armenians and their culture.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>1. \u00a0They&#8217;re great\u00a0at chess<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"chess on Make A Gif\" href=\"http:\/\/makeagif.com\/prI8S4\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.makeagif.com\/media\/12-13-2014\/prI8S4.gif\" alt=\"chess on Make A Gif\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 11px;\">\n<h4>Don&#8217;t challenge an Armenian to a game of chess. They&#8217;ve won three of the last five chess Olympics and\u00a0the game is<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2011\/nov\/15\/armenia-chess-compulsory-schools\" target=\"_blank\"> taught in every school in the country.<\/a><\/h4>\n<h2>2. Rumour has it\u00a0the former PM once said his long life was down to &#8220;Cuban cigars, Armenian brandy\u00a0and no sport!&#8221;<\/h4>\n<h2>3.\u00a0Kim Kardashian is\u00a0Armenian<\/h2>\n<h3>And on a more hardcore note so are rock band System of a Down<\/h3>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/u66Z4Fsz0Lvsk?html5=true\" width=\"480\" height=\"262\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4>A fourth generation Armenian-American, Kim Kardashian isn&#8217;t seen in a wholly favourable light by her countrymen and women because of her publicly led lifestyle. However she\u00a0has (gently) campaigned for genocide recognition. System of a Down have also fought for recognition from the US government &#8211; all four band members are Armenian-Americans and the band has sold over 40m records worldwide.<\/h4>\n<h2>4.
