{"id":137,"date":"2015-01-20T15:40:16","date_gmt":"2015-01-20T15:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.armeniandiaspora.bujournalism.info\/?p=137"},"modified":"2015-01-20T15:40:16","modified_gmt":"2015-01-20T15:40:16","slug":"turkey-to-commemorate-battle-of-gallipoli-on-april-24th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bammj2015.buprojects.uk\/armeniandiaspora\/turkey-to-commemorate-battle-of-gallipoli-on-april-24th\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey to commemorate Battle of Gallipoli on April 24th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/voices\/comment\/the-gallipoli-centenary-is-a-shameful-attempt-to-hide-the-armenian-holocaust-9988227.html\">Robert Fisk wrote in yesterday&#8217;s Independent<\/a> about how Turkey will, for the first time, commemorate the &#8216;Battle of Gallipoli&#8217; on April 24th, the same day Armenians commemorate the genocide.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The battle of Gallipoli began in March 1915 and lasted until January 1916.<\/p>\n<p>Armenian President, Serzh Sargsyan, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.genocide-museum.am\/eng\/16.01.2015-President's-Letter.php\">responded to an invitation to the event by accusing Turkey<\/a> of attempting to take the attention away from\u00a0Armenia&#8217;s genocide\u00a0commemoration.<\/p>\n<p>Sargsyan wrote in an open letter:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What purpose does it serve if not a simple-minded goal to distract the attention of the international community from the events dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide?
