As featured in previous blog posts, I explained how I met Khatchatur Pilikian whose parents had survived the massacres. Khatchatur’s father went on to write a journal about his time living in the Ottoman Empire. I also interviewed Khatchatur’s wife, Araxie.

Turkey to commemorate Battle of Gallipoli on April 24th

Robert Fisk wrote in yesterday’s Independent about how Turkey will, for the first time, commemorate the ‘Battle of Gallipoli’ on April 24th, the same day Armenians commemorate the genocide.

CAIA: Supporting the diaspora

As part of my investigation into the Armenian diaspora  I spoke to Misak Ohanian. Misak founded the Centre for Armenian Information and Advice (CAIA) – a charity offering support for the UK diaspora. Misak’s grandfather escaped the 1915 massacres and fled to Cyprus where he was born.

Khatchatur Pilikian

The Mansion on the Hill

During the massacres many Armenian homes were taken by Turkish families or destroyed. I met Professor Khatchatur Pilikian whose parents survived the massacres to discuss a painting of his from 1957 called ‘The Mansion on the Hill’.
