As part of my investigation into the Armenian diaspora I spoke to Misak Ohanian. Misak founded the Centre for Armenian Information and Advice (CAIA) – a charity offering support for the UK diaspora. Misak’s grandfather escaped the 1915 massacres and fled to Cyprus where he was born.
Then in the 1960’s after fighting broke out between Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots, they escaped to London where he set up the CAIA. Below is a short video produced by CommunityChannel and London360 on the charity and an article taken from my website that I wrote last year discussing their work.
the sad part which I have always diaresged with John is the following: Internet always connects people and thats no secret, however. In an urbanized century with the prevailance of indivdualism, internet has little place if any to re-communalize the Armenian society. What is needed is more than a cable of internet to preserve what Michael once called me communal consolidation. Anyway, a hard topic to discuss here but John is always revolutionary though never prone to revolution parties…kidding John
